...just stuff that makes me happy...

2008/07/15 - Rock Band 2
Fresh from the E3'08 press release ...
"Owners of the original Rock Band will have the ability to export most of the Rock Band disc tracks and upgrade them into Rock Band 2 gameplay"

Fuck YEAH! That's the kind of shit that's worth paying for!

And here I thought I may have to deal with both Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour somehow ... based on this news, FUCK ACTIVSION and FUCK GUITAR HERO! Long live Harmonix and Rock Band!
Just goes to show that Harmonix seems to be in this for the long haul, and is building an engine & growing the games around it, rather than Activision, that is simply spanking out instances of a franchise.
That bit of news made my day.
awww yeah.
2008/07/08 - firefox 3 - modifying the context menu
again, maybe it's just me, but I hate hate hate hate hate it when I'm using the context menu to save an image and I quad out and click "send link" instead, which I absolutely never want to do.
Enter Menu Editor!!! This does what it says it does. I've just started playing with it, and I've already hidden all of the stupid "send link" context menu entries. I'll probably start reordering the entries next, so the stuff I use most frequently (like save link as) is at the top, and not way down in the middle. So far so good.
awww yeah.
2008/07/08 - my new headphones
My new headphones arrived today! huzzah! they're the Audiotechnica ATH-CK7.
I had the JBL Reference 220 first, and they sounded really nice. Except for the rustling noise made by the cloth-covered cable (aka microphonics). Drove. Me. Absolutely. Bananas. So back they went.
Picked up the JVC HA-FX66 to tide me over, and after I did the Kramer mod, they sounded ok. Not as good as the JBL's, but ok. Bass was bigger, phatter, a little punishing and perhaps a little muddy, but full.
Then I found the ATH-CK7 on the google. And ordered 'em from axemusic.com. And waited. And I must say, they're tasty beans. At least as good as the JBL's, and that's straight out of the box, before any burn in. The bass is there, but not as muddy as the FX66's, so perhaps the sound isn't as full, but the fullness was really due to the mud, so I think I'm ok with that. Otherwise, very clean and crisp. Very happy, and looking forward to hearing how the sound changes as they burn in.
awww yeah.
2008/07/07 - Doctor Who - Season 4
The last episode of Season 4 was on Saturday, so now that I've got the entire eason, I can start watching. 2 episodes down, 11 to go.
awww yeah.
2008/06/29 - firefox 3 - making the awesome bar not awesomely sucky
Yeah, ok, so this may be more about me than the awesome bar per se ... but in playing around with the RCs, I've always found the awesome bar to be an awesomely bad piece of shit.
Fortunately, I've found out some stuff, and now, while I still don't know if the awesome bar is awesome, I can comfortably state that it doesn't suck.
The first thing is that I use tabs a lot. I mean, A LOT. I'll leave tabs open because I may want to come back to it, and for me, I'd rather leave the tab open than bookmark it or something. Then, whenever I'd have to restart Firefox, I'd just bookmark all tabs, restart, and start fresh. So, I have a lot of bookmarks, most of which I know I'll probably never use again. This is important, because one thing I didn't know until recently is that one of the places the awesome bar looks is your bookmarks

This is important, because one thing I didn't know until recently is that one of the places the awesome bar looks is your bookmarks. So, one of the reasons why when I was trying to go to foo.com and the awesome bar was suggesting foo.com/some/link/way/deeper/than/that.html was because I had that bookmarked.
Unfortunately, there is no built-in way to stop this behaviour. Which seems kind of ... oh, I dunno ... starts with "r", rhymes with "departed"?
But this is Firefox, so extensions to the rescue! Enter Hide Unwanted 3!!! This extension hides bookmarks that haven't visited since deleting or clearing history from showing in the awesome bar. Awesome.
The second thing is that to delete stuff from the history, you just have to press the "delete" key on the item in the awesome bar history.
Armed with these 2 things, the awesome bar is at least not a fucking pain in the ass.
awww yeah.
